A new career path for Melissa - It's never too late to achieve your dreams!

Melissa came to Agence Residentielle Restigouche at a crossroads in her career. Working in a physically demanding job that was becoming increasingly difficult, she dreamed of pursuing something new, but fear held her back.

As someone who is hard of hearing and relies on lip reading to communicate, Melissa worried that her hearing impairment and learning disabilities would prevent her from succeeding in a post secondary program. She wasn't sure if further education was even possible for her.

With the help of her Employment Counsellor, Melissa identified the supports needed to pursue her goals. Through our services, she received new hearing aids, assistive technology that connected directly to her devices, and other accommodations designed to help her succeed in a classroom environment.

With these tools in place, Melissa enrolled in the Nail Technician program at World of Beauty in Moncton, a completely new field for her. Despite her initial doubts, Melissa not only completed the program but graduated with top honors.

Even better? She secured employment before her course even ended.

Melissa's journey shows that with the right supports and determination, barriers can become stepping stones to success.
